The hounds of Middleton Place Hounds wander around a field while they wait for the hunt to begin in Charleston, SC, on Jan. 16, 2009. Middleton Place Hounds (MPH) was recognized as a member of the Master of Foxhounds Association (MFHA) in January 1977. The primary hunt country consists of land in Charleston and Dorchester Counties, containing over 7,000 acres on Middleton Place and Millbrook Plantation. MPH is primarily a drag hunt and maintains a kennel of approximately fifty foxhounds, including crossbred and English foxhounds. MPH travels to other plantations throughout SC, and has joint meets with other regional hunts. Foxhunting is a traditional activity and a colorful pageant enjoyed by participants and spectators alike. (photo by Stacy Pearsall)
