33 imagesGiven my first-hand experience in the battle space as a former combat photographer, I provide a unique understanding of military operations and bring my knowledge to bear at each photo shoot. When possible, I use active duty, Guard, Reserve and military veterans as my models. Our combined experiences, and real-world know-how, provide a finished product that’s the real-deal with polished finesse. "The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) visual information does not imply or constitute DoD endorsement."

117 imagesStacy Pearsall began the Veterans Portrait Project while recovering from combat injuries she’d sustained in Iraq. Her military career was over, her body was broken and her spirit was crushed. She'd lost hope in my future, faith in herself and passion for life. While rehabilitating, she spent countless idle hours in VA waiting rooms surrounded by veterans from every generation and branch of service. They inspired her to pick up the camera again so that she could honor and thank them with the only gift she felt she had worth giving, her photography. Since taking her first portrait in late 2008, she's conducted more than 189 portrait engagements, traveled to 82 cities in 50 states and captured over 8,500+ veterans' portraits. The Veterans Portrait Project has been emotionally cathartic, physically healing tool. She'd committed her life to her country and when she could no longer serve in uniform, the VPP became an extension of her service. Her new mission in life is to share the unique stories of military veterans and honor their service in a unique, creative way. Each veteran receives a complimentary, high-resolution portrait they can share with friends and family. Their portraits and stories are also included in national printed exhibitions, showcased in video productions and shared via social media, thus ensuring their contributions to American military history are never lost. The Veterans Portrait Project collection represents the over 22 million military veterans in the United States. They’re young and old, male and female. They come from all walks of life and have varied religious beliefs, levels of education and racial ethnicity. What unites them all is their service. It’s a bond that cannot be broken, and she's proud to be one of them. [All Veterans Portrait Project images are copyrighted and may not be used without written permission]

17 imagesErnest R. Jenkins was born April 16, 1918, in Charleston, SC. During WWII, he was stationed in North Africa as a 2nd Lieutenant B-17 Bombardier. He flew 21 combat sorties before being shot down over France. The entire crew, save one, survived. Despite being injured while parachuting from the downed B-17, Jenkins evaded capture for over a month. His copilot, Robert Johnson, and he were captured near Perpignan, Spain, and taken to a POW camp in Barth, Germany, known as Stalag Luft. Nearly 11,000 servicemen were held at Stalag Luft. During his time in captivity, Jenkins estimated he dug 6 tunnels to escape. While Jenkins was unsuccessful, there were others with more success. Jenkins was held for 17 months before being liberated by allied forces. Upon returning home to Charleston, SC, Jenkins worked for the state and remained in the Air Force Reserves until he retired. "I don't consider myself 'The Greatest Generation'," says Jenkins. "I was just doing what was needed to protect our great nation."

85 imagesThis gallery features a Veterans Portrait Project at Raritan High School in Hazlet, NJ, on May 5, 2016. The purpose of this event is to provide photography students with advanced studio lighting and portrait photography skills, while also giving the students an opportunity to interact with local military veterans. Each student had the rare chance to take a portrait of a local area veteran with the guided support of former combat photographer Stacy Pearsall and Kristine Bosworth with Nikon Professional Services (NPS). Not only did the students gain new photographic skills through Pearsall's and Bosworth's teachings, but they also reached out to important members of their community. They were able to say thank you to America's heroes through the art of photography.

Polycor's Georgia quarries produce the stone used at all of our National Cemeteries and countless National Monuments. With that in mind, the creative minds at Polycor designed a pedestal from which we could photograph their veteran-employees. The theme, "The Living Monument." We set up our studio in the Vermont Granite Museum and captured 34 amazing veterans from all branches and generations - WWII to present day! #veteransportraitproject #vpp #nikonlove #nikonnofilter #polycor #portraitphotography #portraits #photography #vermont #granite #nationalmonument #livingmonument
