Retired U.S. Army First Sergeant Eugene D. Smith enlisted in 1966 at the height of the Vietnam War. Unlike many who enlisted, or were drafted, during the Vietnam Era, Smith chose to stay in the Army as a Military Police Officer. He rose to the rank of First Sergeant and retired from the Army in 1992. “It was an honor to serve my country,” explains Smith, “but I’m retired now and I can relax and do whatever I want.”
